The Company
As a worldwide marine engineering group, Digby Morris' client has earned itself a prominent position on the world market in a highly specialized and complex discipline. The company fosters a strong innovative approach and has indeed been a trend-setter and a pioneer in technical innovation throughout its history. The Group can look back on nearly 150 years of experience in its core dredging and land reclamation activities and hydraulic engineering. At present the company has a permanent workforce of 3,500 persons.
A diversified approach enables them to offer their clients total solutions for major port and waterway developments and large-scale land reclamation projects. They supply fluvial and marine aggregates to the construction industry and their oil-and-gas specialists focus mainly on excavating and backfilling trenches for oil and gas pipeline laying, constructing landfalls for the same pipelines, and protecting and stabilizing pipelines by precision stone dumping to depths up to 1000m. Apart from dredging, they have built up an enviable track record in horizontal and vertical drilling techniques, building fixed near-shore and offshore structures such as radar stations, weather stations and wind farms, using high-quality bitumen applications to protect dike bodies and river and sea beds, wreck clearance, dry earth moving, and many other activities.
The Project
Once completed, London Gateway will be the most advanced deep-sea container port in the world and Europe's largest dedicated logistics park, underpinned by a comprehensive multi-modal capability combining a deep-sea port, coastal feeder facilities, rail and rapid access to the UK motorway network. Additionally, it is close to all three London international airports. Located on the Thames Gateway, London Gateway is in a growing region and close to major population centres. The combination of Port and Logistic Park promises to become a major UK hub for trade and the provision of global supply chain solutions.
The Role
Working directly for the JV contractor the QS's tasks will broadly cover, amongst others:
- Commercial Administration (billings, valuations, claims-management, etc.) in cooperation with the Finance and Project Manager
- Main Contract Administration (contractual correspondence, defend contractual exposure, preparation and substantiation of claims, handling VO 's),
- Joint Venture Administration (Board meetings, JV-agreement, internal administration wrt payments, etc.)
- Subcontracts Administration (subcontracts, contractual correspondence, defending claims of subcontractors and preparation of counter-claims)
This position will have on-site support as well as expert-support from our Commercial, Legal Department of our head-office on ad-hoc basis. We are looking for a person with:
- 15yrs experience minimum,
- proven contractors' experience in the construction-industry (with preference off course to the marine/shipping/dredging-industry),
- Dynamic person and motivated to work
- Team-player
- very good communication skills,
