His current role as Thales Australia, Process Improvement Manager, involves organising and coordinating process improvement activity and the management of CMMI assessment teams within Thales Australia. He has been involved in the implementation and roll-out of the Thales Australia instance of Chorus (the new global company management system) during the past year. Stedroy has extensive knowledge and training in ISO 9001, CMM and CMMI, and has been a member of the assessment teams for the CMMI Levels 4 & 5 in Thales ATM, Melbourne. Process Improvement Manager reporting to the Senior Quality & Process Improvement Manager
Principle tasks as follows:
• Lead and implement process improvement activity across Thales Australia utilising appropriate methodologies (e.g. CMMI, LEAN, ISO9001, Balanced Scorecard, ABEF, etc) to improve overall business performance.
• Ensuring the delivery of appraisals across Thales Australia so as to fully utilise the available Engineering Process Management resources while meeting the differing business group’s requirements.
• Preparing business unit and operational staff in successful achievement of objective in appraisals as follows:
• One-on-one mentoring, review and ratification of work products and processes.
• Performing presentations on the methodologies being used in appraisals.
• Controlling and managing activity during appraisals.
• Project Managing Improvement programmes to meet divisional requirements and objectives with regards to cost, delivery and quality.
• For all Operations transverse actions: developing communication strategies with the Business Groups/Divisions to improve the rate of change acceptance and consequent benefits.

Corporate 3 year assignment from the UK to Australia extended to 3½ years. At the completion, this assignment was converted to a local contract and a successfully sponsored application was made to DIIMA in February 2006
Principle tasks as follows:
• Utilising knowledge and expertise in support of the business’s Process Improvement and Setting New Standards projects.
• Managing and co-ordinating the corporate implementation of the Process Improvement project across ADI.
• Roles and tasks previously performed in the TDIS, Wells business unit. (see below)
• Acting as a conduit in the promulgation of best-practice across ADI.
• Performing internal gap-analysis activity within ADI, thus assisting projects in the identification of shortfalls in relation to best-practices.


APR 01 – AUG 02 THALES DEFENCE INFORMATION SYSTEMS, WELLS, SOMERSET
Principle driver in the Thales Corporate global process improvement initiative as Process Improvement Analyst reporting to the Systems Engineering Group Manager
Principle tasks involved:
• Development of the business case for Process Improvement to the Executive.
• The task involved a presentation outlining the Process Improvement Management plan, Organisational plan and strategy with a ROM resource and cost profile. The plan was subsequently accepted, funding agreed with the required persons later recruited to form the current process improvement group.
• Development of plans and ideas to support the requirement of achieving the appropriate Improvement Model level.
• Analysing and reporting on Process Performance to Senior Management
• Planning and implementation of internal assessments against the Capability Maturity Model (CMMI) in this business unit
• Reporting the results of such assessments and recommendation of actions to be taken together with the appropriate/relevant implementation plan.
• Providing internal co-ordination and support to external bodies in their performance of assessments at this division
• Attendance at seminars and conferences related to the corporate process improvement initiative including presentations to Thales Research and Technology.
• Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the internal processes within the process improvement group. Designed and developed the internal processes for the Technology Process Improvement and Tools start-up group and CBA/IPI trainer
• In support of the Thales Global improvement initiative, I have also led the planning and implementation of an internal assessment at ADI, Sydney and preparation of a draft process improvement plan, which was subsequently accepted by the EXECCOM.

JUN 00 – APR 01 THALES DEFENCE INFORMATION SYSTEMS, WELLS, SOMERSET

Software Quality Assurance Manager reporting to the Quality Manger
Principle tasks involved:
• Developing a Software Quality assurance capability within the division as a part of the Business Process Improvement initiative.
• Responsibility for the day-to-day running of the SQA function.
• Recommending SQA staffing levels in order to meet the requirements of both the Division and Projects and the maintenance of the Company’s ISO 9000-3 Tick IT status.
As an extension of this role, I performed internal software CMM assessments on a selection of projects.

JUL 97 – JUN 00 BAE SYSTEMS, UNDERWATER WEAPONS DIVISION, WATERLOOVILLE (formerly Marconi Electronic Systems, UWD)
Software Quality Assurance Manager reporting to the Business Improvement Principle tasks involved:
• Developing plans for SQA to achieve an improved maturity as part of the Division’s stated aim for CMM Level 2.
• Advising on how best the SQA requirements of SPI using the CMM can be satisfied for Software Development
• Member of the Software Process Focus Group within the Division
• Recommending the Software Quality policy, strategy and implementation programmes within the Division.
• Responsibility for the day-to-day running of the SQA function.

SEP 94 - SEP 95 M O D, PROJECT UNICOM, WORTHY DOWN, WINCHESTER
A one-year degree placement was spent as part of the Quality Assurance team responsible for implementing procedures assuring that quality be built into any software produced by the Project team. Tasks and duties involved moderating in Fagan Inspections and maintaining the statistics database. I gained experience in the use of Oracle SQL Plus, Oracle Forms30, Oracle Report Writer 1.0, CA Supercalc 5.5 and Wordperfect 5.1. 1981-1990 Management Services Department. Main responsibilities were the supervision of staff operating an International Message Switch running on a Burroughs ADX 6400 and a Cable Authentication System running on a TANDEM Non-Stop 2.
