KATANGA MINING LTD. 2006 - 2008
Publicly listed on the TSX, Katanga is refurbishing a major mine complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) potentially becoming Africa’s largest copper producer and the world’s largest cobalt producer.
Senior Advisor
Multifaceted expatriate role which included project management, strategic operations, finance, procurement, facilities and control review in both French speaking DRC and corporate office.
• Negotiated contracts (software, support and consulting) and project managed Phase I of a global enterprise management solution implementation (MINCOM), innovatively overcoming significant obstacles (i.e. lack of IT infrastructure, unskilled local resources, and inadequate site support).
• Evaluated necessity of continuing $40 million investment of neighboring mining operations following merger, analyzing existing operational capacity, legal/tax legislation and subsequent synergies.
• Assessed exports/logistics processes resulting in 65 recommendations; thereafter, facilitated meetings with site management to assign accountability, identify actionable items and determine execution timeframe.
• Championed logistics software implementation (Mine Market) for site, liaising with operations, satellite and corporate offices to automate manual system.
