Engineer experience:
• Abu Dhabi, UAE, 06-08 to present, ICT/IBMS Site Engineer for new campus in Abu Dhabi, the first facility to be built in the world’s first carbon-neutral, zero emissions city, reporting to the Project Manager, responsible for delivery of state of the art ICT and IBMS systems.
• Pre-delivery responsibilities included; requirements capture, technical specification, Request for Proposal (RFP), tender management, recommendation reports, workshops, responding to technical queries, clarifications, coordination of review, pre-bid meetings, presentations, managing bidder presentations, evaluations and recommendations on bidders’ proposals.
• Delivery responsibilities include; progress reporting, checking drawings, designs and quantities, selection and requisition of materials; negotiating price for materials and services on behalf of the client. Ensuring cost-effective solutions and proposals put forward. Liaised with other consultants, sub-contractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project; liaising with clients and their representatives (architects, engineers and surveyors), including attending regular meetings to keep them informed of progress, writing detailed reports. Commissioning and acceptance testing of ICT & IBMS systems.
• IBMS tasks include; review BMS-IBMS design strategy and various tertiary sub systems strategies. Ensuring IBMS supplier had sufficient information to progress topographical design drawings by qualifying sensor devices and meters were shown on the drawings. Assisted IBMS specialist to manage, organise and rationalise the IBMS point’s schedule, hosted workshops with client, main contractor and tertiary system specialists to gather information. Acted as liaison with construction team on site, managed requirements both technically and against Construction Programme. Liaised with Clients Commissioning Consultant to provide mitigation measures where required to ensure programme was met.
• General Electric Company of Libya (GECOL), commissioned a national telecommunications transmission network as part of national power networks upgrade. UK based Assistant Engineer, responsibilities included; peer reviews of preliminary specifications, detail design and test specifications for communication systems, radio, optical, data and voice communications.
• GECOL, UK based, Assistant Engineer, desktop study of Wireless Communications technologies, Libyan wireless infrastructure and radio spectrum availability. Wireless technologies reviewed to asses suitability for extending SCADA telemetry network across 11 kV Sub-Station network. Findings presented in draft and final reports.
• ZEKC-PT, BiH (Sarajevo, Bosnia), Clients Engineer for Site Acceptance Test (SAT), reporting to the Director of Telecommunications, responsibilities included; programme review, daily reporting and briefings & test witnessing. A national telecommunications transmission network built over unified power network, using optical ground wire (OPGW), 400 SDH/PDH transmission nodes, network transmission lines; STM-16, STM-4 and STM-1 SDH Backbone connections 2Mbps G.703 and Ethernet connections.
• Bristol Parkway station regeneration, GRIP Stage 3- 4. Assistant Engineer, assisted principle on site visits, preliminary surveys, reporting, telecoms survey, capacity review of existing systems cable routing, cable condition and issues with the concentrator system. Additional work included development of detailed design report, including new cable routes, CCTV, personal information displays and signal telephones.
• Irish Rail Telecommunications Design Support, Assistant Engineer, Irish Rail required a consolidated turnkey communications interface. PB provided communications requirements analysis. Desk top study involved documentation, peer review, customer requirements analysis and technical drawings.
• National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) Wessex route GRIP stages 1-3. Assistant Engineer, assisted principle on site visits, preliminary surveys, drafting reports, option and risk workshops. Prepared high level study and report for project development to advance GRIP stages.
• Transport Initiative Edinburgh, Assistant Engineer, The Edinburgh Tram Network is a 28km, £40m light rail system, including 32 tram stops. Responsibilities included; technical drawing, peer reviews of: requirement specifications, for communication systems, radio, optical, data and voice communications, prepared by colleagues for clients.
• Major Metropolitan Control Centre, Assistant Engineer, responsibilities included; system and application requirements capture and analysis, preparation of technical specification, outline design, contract supervision, commissioning and acceptance of command system.
