Summary |
Responsible for the design and production of bridge design documents. Work alongside bridge design team and lead design efforts for sections of projects.
• Lead structural design and analysis for bridge structures utilizing computer programs and manual computations in accordance with accepted bridge design practice and design specifications and guidelines.
• Perform geometric layout.
• Develop structural details for non-standard bridge components.
• Direct and review production of drawings by CAD technicians.
• Assist project managers with project administrative activities including document, cost and schedule control, preparation of meeting minutes, and progress reports and invoices.
• Perform independent checking of structural designs and plans.
• Prepare technical construction specifications.
• Other assignments as needed.
Performing structural design studies and preparing corresponding reports for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, noise walls, dams, vaults, and other structures.
Structural analysis and design for the types of structures described above using software such as BAR7, BOX5, Enbeam-C, MDX, STAAD Pro, and other finite element softwares.
Load rating of bridges and culverts, including structures such as trusses and arches.
Performing geotechnical analysis and design for bridge foundations, retaining walls, and laterally-loaded piles and drilled shafts using LPILE and other softwares and preparation of geotechnical reports.
Evaluations of contractor submittals of design calculations for custom highway hydraulic structures such as special inlets, SWM risers, headwalls, drop structures, and temporary support of excavation.
Field inspection of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, noise walls, and sign structures, and preparation of corresponding inspection reports.
Preparation of structural plans using Microstation.
Preparation of construction cost estimates.
Providing construction-phase services such as review of shop drawings and resolution of construction issues.
Adjust and correlate data, research code issues and document findings.

Dr. Badwan joined Alvi Associates, Inc. in 2006 and has been involved with the design, structural evaluation, and repair of bridges, highway structures, and other deteriorated or distressed structures. Dr. Badwan routinely called to perform design studies and prepare corresponding reports, prepare and verify design calculations, assist with inspecting structures and preparing and reviewing inspection reports, perform and verify load rating calculations, developing and providing oversight for the preparation of plans using CADD softwares. He has also performed construction engineering services, prepared and verified construction cost estimates, provide construction-phase services such as checking shop drawings, design reviews, and building code compliance checks, and is experienced in the finite element modeling of steel, concrete. Dr. Badwan worked with other project engineers to develop effective designs and continuously follow up on research conducted nationwide as it relates to bridges and other areas as needed. Worked on multiple simultaneous projects/contracts and assist with marketing activities including preparation of proposals and presentations. |
